Mangaluru: Drug peddling racket busted; cocaine worth Rs 2.4 lakh seized

MANGALURU: Mangaluru City police busted a drug peddling racket in the city on Monday. The police team has seized 30 grams of cocaine valued at Rs 2.4 lakh.


City crime branch (CCB) and the cops from the Cyber Crime, Economic Offence and Narcotics (CEN) Station in a joint drive arrested three persons while they were attempting to sell cocaine in the city.

City police commissioner PS Harsha said a drive was conducted based on a tip off. "We received a tip off that a gang has been making attempts to sell cocaine to earn money illegally. Following this, a team of officers from the CCB and CEN laid a trap and succeeded in nabbing three,” he said.

Arrested are identified as Fasim Noushid (25), Mohammed Zaid (26), residents of Falnir in the city, and Afzal Hussain (28), from Kunjathur in Kasaragod district of Kerala. Other than 30 grams of cocaine, the police team also has seized mobile phones and a Maruti Swift car. The total value of seizure is estimated at Rs 10 lakh. A case has been registered at the CEN. More accused are involved in the racket, the commissioner said adding that the investigation is on to trace all other accused behind it.
