Mangaluru: Rajendra Kumar and his team win SCDCC board of directors poll

MANGALURU: South Canara District Central Cooperative (SCDCC) Bank chairman MN Rajendra Kumar and his team bagged all the 16 seats in the election held for its board of directors on Friday.

Kumar, whose tenure as the chairman of SCDCC Bank ends on March 31, is completing 25 years as the head of the bank.

Kumar is all set to win the chairman’s post at a meeting of the new board of directors.

Kumar told reporters that he has worked for the development of the bank, which has a history of 114 years, as its chairman in the past 25 years.

“All the 16 candidates of our panel have won the election. The entire cooperative sector has blessed our panel without considering the caste, religion and political affiliations of our candidates. I will not bring politics into the bank and I will not politicise the cooperative sector. I will work in the future too, for the overall development of the bank, and for the benefit of the people,” said Kumar.

On future plans, Kumar said the bank has proposed to set up an urea plant of 12.5 lakh tonnes capacity at Harihar in Davanagere.

“The state has a requirement of 15 lakh tonnes of urea for the agriculture sector. However, at present, Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilisers (MCF), has the capacity to produce 4.5 lakh tonnes. The central government has already approved our proposal to set up a plant in Harihar,” he said.

Further, he said the bank will introduce a common software that will enable customers to make all transactions cashless. In addition, the bank will also give more emphasis on the education of self-help group members’ children, he said, adding that the bank will continue to serve the people by extending all facilities.
