Mann attacks Badals in Patiala, goes easy on Captain

PATIALA: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state president Bhagwant Mann on Friday took a dig at Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) patriarch Prakash Singh Badal stating he was trying to “emotionally blackmail” the people of Punjab with his statements that he was ready to go to jail.

Mann, who was in Patiala to hold a party workers’ meet, said Badal was still playing political of the 1980s when he had managed to mislead the voters with his emotional speeches.

“People of Punjab have come a long way. Today everyone know who the real culprits of the firing incidents in Behbal Kalan are,” the Sangrur MP said. “Badal should not worry about carrying his clothes to the jail as this time he would be provided with a proper uniform in the prison,” he added.

He said also attacked SAD president Sukhbir Badal, saying that he should not be taken seriously.

Interestingly, he refrained from directly targeting chief minister Amarinder Singh in his home town. Instead, he appealed to electorate to teach the Congress a lesson by voting for AAP. Without naming Capt Amarinder, Mann said that a leader who had declared that it was his last election did not have much at stake and was not answerable to the people of the state.

All development that was being talked about had taken place only on paper, the AAP leader said, adding the waters of Satluj had turned poisonous and no efforts were being made to change the ground realities in Punjab.

Earlier, addressing the party workers, he said AAP was a party of common people and all the rank the file had a shared responsibility in the set up. He said all development works carried out by him during his tenure as MP were well documented and he would be reaching out to voters with these “proofs” to seek re-election from Sangrur.
