Mansa bags national award for best performance in nutrition campaign

Mansa: Mansa district has won the national award for the best performing district under the ‘Poshan Abhiyan’ (nutrition mission) for the second consecutive year. Mansa has been conferred the award for implementing campaign at the grass-root level to fight against malnutrition.

Mansa deputy commissioner Apneet Riyait, civil surgeon Dr Lal Chand Thakral, district programme officer Avinash Walia and Swasthya Bharat Prerak Aditya Madan received the award from the Union minister for social security, women and child development Smriti Irani at a ceremony held in New Delhi.



Last year also Mansa was conferred the award for successfully implementing the nutrition campaign and changing lives of people in a healthier way.

The motive of the mission is to put malnutrition to an end, to ensure better health for children up to six years of age suffering from low birth weight, lack of nutritious food, lack of physical development and to treat anaemia. Making it a widely run campaign in the district, the activities such as baby shower for expecting mothers, campaign on breast feeding and information regarding malnutrition and its effects were circulated besides monitoring of anaemic children after every three months was conducted, Riyait said.
