Many injured in clashes in Mau, Chandauli

Varanasi: Bid to give communal colour to group clashes in Mau and Chandauli district on Tuesday night left the police sweating on Wednesday.

SP Mau Anurag Arya, on Wednesday, said that two groups clashed in Hansapur village under Kopaganj police station on Tuesday late night and indulged in brick batting.

Two persons suffered injuries in the clash and were rushed to the district hospital, he said adding that 12 persons from both the groups had been taken under custody in this connection. Police force has been deployed in the area to avoid recurrence of untoward incident .

One group alleged that the rival group attacked them following a dispute over sitting near their locality while the other group alleged that clash took place over an incident of sexually harassing the girls. The dispute took an ugly turn when exchange of heated words was followed by brick batting by both the groups.

Meanwhile, in Chandauli district two groups indulged in a clash over a dispute of cricket match in Mohammadpur village under Chakia police station. Several persons suffered injuries in this incident while one group also tried to block the road.

Taking note of the incident, SP Chandauli Hemant Kutiyal and CO Chakia Niraj Patel reached the incident site with heavy police force. Patel said that a large number of people had gathered at Savitribai Phuley Inter College ground of Mohammadpur village on Tuesday evening. Some dispute occurred during the cricket match followed by a clash between the two groups.

Later, both the groups attacked each other with sticks in night. Tension gripped the area when people from other villages also started gathering there. In view of the bid to give a communal colour to the incident PAC personnel were deployed in the village. Patel said that eight persons have been arrested in this connection so far while further investigation is continuing in this episode.
