Maoist killed in Gaya encounter

Gaya: An unidentified CPI (Maoist) activist was killed in a fierce gun battle between members of the rebel outfit and a joint team of the CoBRA battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force and Bihar Police in the Latua forest area in Gaya district on Saturday. The security forces also recovered an AK-47 assault rifle and 84 rounds of live ammunition from the encounter site.

City SP Sushil Kumar, incharge of the Maoist-hit police stations of the district, said the gun battle took place during a routine operation to drive out the Maoists from the southern parts of the district. “As the security forces were heading towards the hideout of the Maoists, the ultras opened indiscriminate firing. The cops returned the fire, killing one of the Maoists,” the SP added.
