Maratha activists to continue with agitation in Aurangabad

CLEARED SKHER

Aurangabad: Maratha Kranti Morcha activists are going to take up different activities at Kranti chowk to highlight the government’s failure to meet most of their demands, including jobs to the next kin of 43 people who died in the course of Maratha reservation demand. The activisits have been on a sit-in (thiyya andolan) at Kranti Chowk for the last five days.

Sunil Kotkar, Aurangabad coordinator of the Maratha Kranti Morcha, alleged that their agitation had not been taken seriously so far. “No senior official has visited the activists yet. We have decided to reach out to the community members to stage demonstrations in a different manner,” he said.

Kotkar has resorted to a thiyya andolan since August 17 to draw the attention of the government and other authorities toward their demands. At Kranti Chowk, they will be holding different activities from Thursday

He said they have been demanding immediate hanging of the Kopardi rape convicts, withdrawal of offences registered against the Maratha activists during the reservation stir, immediate assistance to the flood-affected people of Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Konkan and Nashik areas.

Other demands include installation of Shivaji Maharaj statue in Arabian Sea, immediate waiver of tuition fee for the Maratha students, direction to banks to process the proposals submitted through the Annasaheb Patil Financial Development Corporation and amendments in the atrocity act.
