Margao group protests decrepit roads

Margao: The Shadow Council for Margao has stepped up its agitation against the PWD for failing to repair roads in the town. While members of the Shadow Council confronted the PWD assistant engineer (national highways) Rajesh Gawde, over the issue on Tuesday, they had to postpone their demonstration in Margao on Wednesday due to heavy rain.

“We had planned to put up cautionary signs near all the potholes to deride the authorities for their failure to repair the roads,” Coutinho said, adding that the protest will be staged on Thursday. On Tuesday, members of the Shadow Council had laid siege to Gawde’s office demanding an explanation over failure to repair the stretch of national highway passing through Margao. They refused to leave until they were assured that repairs would be taken up immediately.
