Margao rape: Police trying to recover survivor's gold

Margao: Following the arrest of Mohammad Ishaq, 22, who has been charged with raping a minor girl from Navelim , Margao police are trying to recover gold ornaments belonging to the survivor , believed to have been sold by the accused . Ishaq was arrested in Hyderabad on September 6.

The police team which had left for Hyderabad, has recovered some of the valuables sold by the accused to different jewellery shops in Hyderabad.

Police suspect that Ishaq may have sold some valuables in Goa as well, and are trying to recover the stolen property.

Ishaq was arrested by the police after he surrendered to the Margao town police, four months after being booked for the crime. He was booked under section 376 ( rape ) of the IPC, section 8 of the Goa Children’s Act and section 4 of the POCSO Act, for repeatedly raping the minor for over two years.

Earlier, on August 28, the police had arrested his brother, Jabber Ahmed, from Hyderabad. Ahmed had helped Ishaq in forcing the survivor to part with her jewellery.

As per the complaint filed by the mother of the victim on May 24, the accused had sexually abused her daughter between May 2017 and January 2019. Police said the accused used to follow the survivor while she went for tuitions and photographed her. He had threatened to make the survivor’s pictures public and forced her to part with her gold ornaments. Ishaq is also wanted by the Hyderabad police for having allegedly cheated several businessmen for several lakhs of rupees.
