Mathrubhumi's Managing Director MP Veerendra Kumar passes away

Kozhikode: Rajyasabha MP and MD of Mathrubhumi Newspaper MP Veerendra Kumar passed away. He was 83 years of age. He was admitted to a private hospital at Calicut due to old age illness, he died due to a heart attack at around 11.00 pm.

M P Veerendra Kumar was born on 22 July 1936 to Marudevi Avva and Padmaprabha Gowder in a popular Jain family in Kalpetta. He did his schooling in Kalpetta and at Kozhikode, he did his master’s in philosophy from Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda College, Madras(Chennai).

M. P. Veerendra Kumar was well known for his oratory skills and had authored several books. He was elected to the Indian Parliament (Lok Sabha) in 1996 and 2004 from the Kozhikode constituency. During his first tenure, served as Minister of State (Finance) and later as Minister in Independent Charge of Labour till its dissolution in 1998. During his lifetime, he got bestowed with several Awards and honours towards contribution in the field of culture, profession and public life.
