Mayawati drops hint about being PM contender: 'If all goes well will contest from Ambedkar Nagar'

New Delhi: Saying that the era of 'Namo Namo' was over and time had come for those who chant 'Jai Bhim', Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati indicated that if she gets a chance to become the Prime Minister, she will contest the Lok Sabha election from Ambedkar Nagar.

"If all goes well, I may have to seek election from here because the road to national politics passes through Ambedkar Nagar," the BSP chief said while addressing a rally in Ambedkar Nagar.

Mayawati has been elected to the Lok Sabha four times - 1989, 1998, 1999 and 2004 – from Ambedkar Nagar.

Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, whose party is contesting the polls in alliance with the BSP, has repeatedly said that he would back Mayawati as Prime Minister.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Sunday appealed voters in Amethi and Rae Bareli parliamentary constituencies to vote for the Congress and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of practicing "divide and rule" policy to bring down the SP-BSP alliance.

She clarified her decision to support the Congress in Amethi and Rae Bareli was not because of any soft feeling towards it but was an attempt to "remove" the BJP from the power.
