Medical apathy: Leaving injured woman unattended in ambulance, hospital staff rushes to welcome UP minister
Agra: In a case of gross dereliction of medical duty, an injured woman was left unattended inside an ambulance for nearly an hour at a government hospital in Aligarh on Friday as the hospital staff and doctors were engaged in welcoming Uttar Pradesh minister for medical, health and family welfare Atul Garg.
Vinesh Chauhan (58) and her grandson named Rishant (23) were travelling on a motorcycle when another motorcycle hit them near Atrauli. Vinesh was taken to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Joint Hospital while Rishant rushed to another hospital as he suffered serious injuries and is currently on ventilator support.
The UP minister assured action against the medical officials responsible for the incident. Later, the administration of the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Joint Hospital issued a recommendation of strict action against the medical supervisor, identified as Dr Mohammad Islam, who was on duty at the time of the incident.
Patient's fractured body parts not plastered properlyWhile speaking to The Times of India, chief medical superintendent of the hospital, Dr Dk Gupta said that he had no idea why the patient was not attended in time by the doctor. He added that he has recommended action against Dharmendra Tomar, a pharmacist at the hospital, as he did not properly plaster the fractured body parts of the patient. Surgery should have been performed on the patient’s right leg as it was badly injured.
The patient’s other grandson, identified as Kuldeep, said that the doctors referred his grandmother to the medical college which is out of their affordability. So, they took her to Ram Swaroop Hospital.
