Meghalaya count rises to 17 with two fresh cases

SHILLONG: Two more returnees from Uttar Pradesh tested positive for Covid-19 in Meghalaya on Tuesday evening, taking the total number of active cases in the state to 17.


"Two more residents of Meghalaya who had returned from Uttar Pradesh have tested positive for COVID19. Both of them are under quarantine in Chibinang , West Garo Hills District ," chief minister Conrad K Sangma tweeted.



Meghalaya has registered 30 Covid-19 cases, of whom 12 have recovered, one has died.

State health minister AL Hek told reporters that so far 9,242 samples have been tested, of which 8,651 are negative, while results for the remaining tests were awaited.

He said the state government was taking steps to ensure that there was no community spread and added that the authorities were monitoring the situation.

"Next few weeks will be challenging as we expect stranded citizens to return home. We have to remain alert and not panic even if there are positive cases," Sangma said earlier in the day.
