Minor girl from Jamshedpur alleges rape by 4 cops in Odisha, Chhattisgarh

Bhubaneswar: A 15-year-old girl from Jamshedpur has alleged that she was gang-raped by several people including four police personnel at different places in Jharsuguda and Raipur in Chhattisgarh. The matter came to light after the survivor lodged a police complaint in connection with the incident at Telco Police Station in Jamshedpur.

After being rescued from a hotel by Bagbera Police in Jharkhand on May 7, the custody of the minor girl has been handed over to East Singhbhum Child Welfare Committee.

As per the minor girl, she was forced into prostitution by her brother-in-law. After being taken to Jharsuguda and Raipur, she was raped multiple times for nearly eight days, the survivor alleged in her complaint.

Jamshedpur Police has initiated a probe after the survivor minor girl lodged a complaint at Telco Police Station.

“We have registered a case basing on the complaint filed by the girl. Her statements will be recorded as per procedure and appropriate action will be taken in connection with the incident. We will visit the places as mentioned by the girl for a detailed probe,” said Jamshedpur senior superintendent of police (SSP) Anoop Birthare.

Jharsuguda SP Ashwini Kumar Mohanty, on the other hand, stated that there are no specific allegations that Jharsuguda cops were involved in the sexual assault.

“The girl has alleged that four police personnel were involved in sexual assault either Raipur or Jharsuguda. A case has been registered at Telco Police Station and we will cooperate them in the investigation,” said Mohanty.
