'Minor sports events curtain raiser to Kila Raipur Games'

Ludhiana: To clear the air over the uncertainty prevailing among people over the next date of Kila Raipur games, popularly known as rural Olympics, members of the newly formed sports committee, Patti Suhavia, have claimed that they will initially organise minor sports events like athletics, kabaddi, cycling and hockey in coming few weeks.

It claims that it is doing so to maintain the craze among the villagers regarding the rural games. It further stated that they would be executing other major sporting event with the same fervour, which was evident in the earlier editions of the games organised.

Moreover, Patti Suhavia members have even taken the possession of a piece of land from Grewal Sports Association after fighting a long battle in the court for more than 22 years.

Col Surinder Singh Grewal, who is president of the organisation, said that, “As the court has declared our organisation Patti Suhavia the owner of the sports stadium land on which the Kila Raipur games used to be organised, it has now become the responsibility of Suhavia members to hold the rural sports event to main the sports craze among villagers. We will soon organise it in the same way as it was held earlier.”

“We are making preparation to organise a minor sporting event which will have kabaddi, athletic events and hockey in the initial stage as we are new in the business of organising such a big sports festival,” he further stated.

“Patti Suhavia is preparing to hold the sports events through a proper channel and we will soon make the announcements of the date of the minor sporting events. We had to carry out a long battle to get stake over the land which belongs to Patti Suhavia to bring the sports festival to the next level of upgrading. We have not decided on the dates to hold the minor sports event, but it will be probably be held next month as the preparation regarding it is under way,” the president of Patti Suhavia maintained.
