Miscreants smash windscreens of 5 cars in Chandigarh

CHANDIGARH: A SUV-borne six miscreants smashed the window panes of five cars parked outside the houses in Sector 61 on Wednesday night. One of the car owners has also alleged that the accused stole a wallet containing cash and other documents from his car. All the six accused were caught in CCTV footage while smashing the window panes of the vehicles.




On the statement of the car owners, Sector 36 police have registered a case against unknown persons and started a probe.

The CCTV footage of the area shows six masked men armed with sticks reached near house number 467 in sector 61at 8.55 pm and started smashing the windscreens with sticks of cars parked in front of house numbers 467 to 477.

The miscreants damaged the windscreens of a Honda city, Hyundai i-20, Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Santro and Maruti Swift. After hearing noise, people tried to nab them, the accused managed to flee from the spot in their Mitsubishi Pajero.

Vinit Chauhan, former president of the resident welfare association (RWA), of Sector 61, said the miscreants damaged total five parked cars, of which two cars belonged to Mukesh Ghai, sales tax lawyer, in Mohali. According to Chauhan, the accused might have vandalised his and other vehicles due to enmity with someone in the society. Another resident Karamjit Singh alleged that the accused stole a wallet from his Maruti Brezza car after breaking the window panes.

Chauhan said there was a problem of law and order in the area due to a liquor shop in the locality.
