Mizoram officials seize drugs worth Rs 3.6 crore

AIZAWL: Officials of the Mizoram excise and narcotics department seized 1.80 lakh tablets of methamphetamine worth around Rs 3.6 crore in the international grey market from the Serchhip district on Thursday .


The officials arrested 2 non-tribals, suspected to be from Assam , and booked them under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

The accused persons were sent to judicial custody for 14 days by a district court. Department officials said that the price of the drugs smuggled to India from Myanmar was around Rs 200 a tablet.

"We are yet to reveal the names of the accused as the investigation was on and revelation of the identities could impede the investigations," an official said.

Methamphetamine, also known as crystal meth, is regarded as an highly addictive substance and is extremely dangerous for human health.
