MLAs lock SSNNL office in Tharad

Palanpur: Anxious moments were witnessed in Tharad town of Banaskantha district on Thursday when Congress MLAs Gulabsinh Parmar and Geni Thakor locked the office of Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd (SSNNL) alleging that their demand for water supply has fallen on deaf ears.

Tharad MLA Parmar said that breaches in the Narmada canal have become a routine phenomenon that the water supply gets suspended without repairs being carried.

This, he claimed, has affected the sowing of Rabi crop.

He threatened to intensify the agitation if the repair work was not expedited.

“Farmers in Suigam, Vav and Tharad are struggling to save their Rabi crop. But the SSNNL is not taking this seriously,” alleged Thakor.

Executive engineer, SSNNL, Tharad, SR Vagdiya said the canal repair nearing completion. We have convened a department meeting on Friday and invited the public representatives,” he said.
