Mohali development body fails to hand over possession of plots in IT City

MOHALI: The allottees of the plots in IT City claimed that the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (Gmada) has so far failed to keep its promise of handing over the possession by mid last year. They alleged that most of the allottees had started receiving the letter of intent (LOI) in mid-2017 and according to the LOI, it was mentioned that the possession of the plots would be handed over to the allottees within a period of one year after the issuance of the letter of intent.

Neither residential nor industrial plots allottees have been handed over the possession of the plots. Around 200 allottees of industrial plots alleged that Gmada had promised to handover the possession which it failed to do so far.

Additional chief administrator Gmada Rajesh Dhiman, said, “A few environment clearances for the site were pending, which delayed the project. Now, we have procured the clearances and will hold draw of lots for numbering the plots soon. Within the next six months all the possessions will be handed over. The tender for development works have been floated and after the code of conduct is over, we will issue the work orders.”

The scheme for the total 200 plots (145 plots measuring 500 square yards and 55 plots measuring 1,000 square yards) was launched on October 3, 2016 and closed on October 28 in 2016.

Thereafter, the process of issuing the LOI’s was sanitated and by September 2018, the possession of the plots was scheduled to be handed over. The allottees also claimed that the development works, including construction of roads, laying of sewer pipelines, rainstorm water pipelines and drinking water pipelines and installation of electric and street light poles is half done.

Gursharan Singh, an allottee for residential plot said, “We are waiting for the developmental works to be completed in the IT city so that we may get the possession and start using the plot for which it has been allotted. But the wait has gone very long despite of the fact that all the dues have been paid.”

The allottees under the Gmada’s 750 residential plot scheme were promised possession by November 2017. However, they are still waiting for the authority to hold draw of lots for numbering the properties, following which these will be handed over to them.

The allottees under the 256 square yard category were issued letters of intent in November 2016.

Another allotee, G K Mehta for industrial plot said, “We have been waiting to start the venture since the LOI’s were handed over to us but since then there has been no progress in giving the possession of the plot. When an allottee has paid full amount then Gmada must take the responsibilty to handover the possession in time.”

Anguised allottees said they are losing interest on money they have already paid to Gmada which they could have put to some other use.
