Mohita Shrivastava: It's natural for an actor to get bored playing the same kind of role

She has never had a Plan B in life. Mohita Shrivastava , who was last seen as Sonu Bhabhi in Rajan Shahi’s ‘ Baavle Utaavle ’, has always wanted to be an actor. But, fulfilling the biggest dream of her life was no cakewalk. After going through several auditions, she finally entered the industry as Preeto in ‘ Sawaare Sabke Sapne...

Preeto ’ and later made cameo appearances in shows like ‘ Sumit Sambhal Lega ’, ‘ Ek Veer Ki Ardaas Veera ’, ‘Ek Rishta Aisa Bhi’, and ‘ Jai Jai Jai Bajrang Bali ’.

Mohita says, “It’s tough to get a head start in the industry. It’s not been an easy journey for me. I have lost count of the number of auditions I gave before bagging my first project. I feel that it’s a lot easier for today’s aspiring actors. Thanks to social media, they are already connected with thousands of people. Having said that, luck also plays a vital role. There are many talented aspirants vying for the same part, but the lucky one gets selected. So, I would say that it’s a combination of talent and luck.”

While we have heard many actors say that they get bored playing the same character, Mohita has a different take on it. She says, “It’s natural for an actor to get bored, but the audiences start identifying him/her with the character so much that they refuse to accept anyone else in that role. At the same time, it’s also a challenge for an actor to experiment with different characters and risk his career. But, you never know... what if it becomes a game changer? As actors, we should be prepared for any kind of change, as nothing is constant in this industry.”

Mohita, who is an introvert in real life, says that she enjoys the challenge of playing someone unlike her. She says, “Playing a character opposite of what I am becomes tricky. For instance, Sonu Bhabhi (her character in ‘Baavle Utaavle’) was bold in a subtle way. That’s the challenge I love — playing a part drastically different from what I am in real life. I would always like to pick characters that make me push the envelope.”
