'Mole' in Alwar police behind gangster's escape?

Alwar: The staff of Behror police station is under the suspicion of its own department following Friday’s attack by armed criminals.

Sources said that senior officials suspect that police insiders tipped off the criminals about Vikram Singh alias Papla being in Behror police’s custody.

The timing of the attack suggests that the criminals knew when the police station would have the minimum strength.

Also, no resistance was given by the cops who were present when the criminals attacked. Not a single policeman was injured, though the criminals fired around 30-40 shots. The policemen did not even chase the criminals immediately when they were fleeing.

Police sources said that information of Vikram Singh alias papla’s detention was quickly relayed to his underlings, allowing the gang ample time to plan a raid.

According to sources, the timing of the incident raises main suspicion of a possible police-criminal nexus. The criminals struck precisely at 9am when the cops posted in night shift were leaving the charge to their colleagues on the morning roster. Other cops were getting ready to report for duty.

“Vikram Singh was picked up at 4am and taken to the police station. Somebody must have tipped off his underlings about the police’s action, which allowed the gang to gather wherewithal for the raid,” an official said, adding that the gang had begun hatching the conspiracy at the very moment the accused had landed in police net.

Talking to TOI, Bhiwadi SP, Amandeep Kapoor Singh said that the police are probing the case from all angles. “Certainly, when the accused are arrested, this will be one of the main points of our interrogation. But nothing conclusively can be said about the suspected leak until we catch the criminals,” the SP said, adding that the police’s main aim at present remains to arrest the accused and his men who are heavily armed.

The senior officials said that the special Agencies-Special Operations Group (SOG) and Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS)- known to keep operations under tight wraps are looking into the case.
