Monsoon preparedness meeting convened in Theni

Madurai: The preparedness meeting for the northeast monsoon was convened at the Theni district collectorate by the district collector Pallavi M Baldev on Tuesday.

Speaking at the meeting, the collector said that steps should be taken immediately to remove any water that stagnates in the low-lying areas in the district and shelters to house affected people should be established.

She said that all wireless equipment in the disaster management control room should be updated to help anyone, who is affected by the rain to contact them immediately.

People could call the telephone numbers including toll free number 1077, 04546-261093 and cellphone number 9487771077, in case of emergencies during the rains. They could also use the TNSMART app for the same .

Baldev said that the health department officials and medical teams should be on the alert and all essential medicines should be well stocked. Drinking water should be properly chlorinated during the monsoon season. She said that medicines for livestock should also be kept ready and the animals should be vaccinated against any contagious disease that spread during monsoon. She said that it should be ensured that all the 12 rain gauges in the district are well-maintained and the shrubs in waterbodies should be cleared. The officials were asked to update information on rainfall data, dam water levels and any damage immediately. TNN
