Moradabad: Two killed, five injured in roof collapse incident

BAREILLY: Two children of a family were buried alive while five members suffered injuries after roof of the ramshackle house they were living in was collapsed due to torrential rains in Moradabad on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred at Gudia locality under Nagphani police station limits in the district. Upon getting the information, police rushed to the spot and began rescue operation with the help of fire brigade.




It was raining heavily since Monday night in the area. Zameer Husain and his family were sleeping when all of a sudden the roof of their house collapsed.

“A massive sound alerted us when the roof in our neighbourhood collapsed. We rushed to the spot to find all the family members stuck under debris. We immediatly informed the police and also started the rescue operation,” a neighbour Wajid said.

Pulling out all buried people, police shifted them to a nearby hospital where doctors proclaimed two kids – Mahak (7) and Amir (10) - dead on arrival.

Other five people including Zameer, Sageer, Kaif, Suhail and Chaman Aara were said to be out of danger.

Additional district magistrate, Priti Jaiswal, with area circle officer also reached the spot to take stock in the matter. ADM said that administration would pay for the treatment of the injured persons, besides compensation for deceased children and damaged house would be given to the kin.

“The incident happened at around 5.30 in the morning. Rs 4 lakh each as ex-gratia will be given to children's kin. Besides, Rs 95,000 will also be provided to the family to repair their damaged house. We are taking care of all injured persons who are being provided all necessary care and facility on government expenses,” ADM said.
