MP: 2 journalists attacked by timber smugglers in Ujjain district

INDORE: Two journalists were brutally beaten up allegedly by some timber smugglers when the victims were covering an inspection by forest officials at timber shop in Mahidpur town of Ujjain district in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday.



The group of journalists was visiting the timber storage area - Mushtaq Ki Taal – when the accused beat them with sticks and axes, injuring a reporter from eveninger, Tanmay Khanuja, and an electronic mediaperson, Anil Bairagi, Mahidpur police station in-charge Ramchandra Koli said.



The journalists were accompanying a forest department team led by ranger Udairaj Singh panwar, when four persons – Ashraf, Mushtaq, Annu and Moinuddin – attacked them, he said, adding the forest team was investigating allegations of large-scale tree felling in Barapathhar village.

The injured were rushed to hospital and were being treated. The doctors claimed that Khanuja sustained injuries on his head, while Bairagi was hurt in his limbs and torso. Both of them were out of danger.

Police have booked the attackers for attempted murder, voluntarily causing hurt and throwing abuses. The accused are yet to be arrested.
