MP: Poaching accused to face trial while in Jabalpur jail

NAGPUR: Dreaded tiger poacher Kashish alias Barsul Madavi (27) will face trial in tiger poaching case in Melghat Tiger Reserve (MTR). Barsul was nabbed by MP Special Task Force (MPSTF) from Rajasthan earlier this month. Melghat officials took his custody from Jabalpur jail on August 14 when his MCR was to end.

In a breather of sorts, Akot judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) MG Hiwrale on August 16 sent Barsul to magisterial custody (MCR) till August 23. “He is in Akola central jail and as per court orders he will remain there till the trial is completed. The court decision follows as the accused jumped bail and never turned up,” said Aware.

Barsul was among six poachers wanted in hunting a tiger and a sloth bear by laying steel trap in compartment 1032 near Khirkund village in Akot division in 2012. Four accused in the case were convicted by Akot court on August 12, 2016.

During continuation of trial, two accused Yarlen and Barsul were absent. Therefore, as per order trial of both was separated. They were granted bail by the high court in 2014 and went missing.
