MP: Three boys drown in water-filled pit in Khandwa

INDORE: Three boys drowned after they fell into a pit filled with water in Imlipura area of Khandwa on Sunday.


The deaths prompted a crowd to stage protest against the local civic body alleging that soil was dug from the area and sold by local contractors, despite informing the authorities about it. Rainwater filled the pits causing the tragedy, they said.

The incident took place in the afternoon when a group of young boys were playing in the area, police said adding some of them fell into the pit filled with water.

While many managed to scramble to safe place, Shah Nawaz Quereshi, 14, Moin Quereshi, 10, and Uber Qadri, 13, could not get out.

As the crowd gathered the spot, police reached in strength and used heavy machinery to dig way to drain the water out of the pit.

The children were rushed to a hospital and declared brought dead.
