MP: Three held for ATM theft of Rs 7.98 lakh in Agar Malwa

INDORE: Agar Malwa police solved the mystery behind the theft of Rs 7.98 lakh from an ATM and arrested three members of an interstate gang involved in breaking into the teller machines.


The accused had broken into an ATM of State Bank of India in Tanodia area of Agar Malwa district and made away with Rs 7.98 lakh after cutting open the teller machine on August 19.



Police had prepared special teams to trace the accused and announced a reward of Rs 10,000 on their heads, IG ( Ujjain ) Rakesh Gupta told reporters on Monday.

One of the teams received a tip-off that the theft must be handiwork of a Mewat (Haryana) based gang that had committed similar crimes in the past, he said adding the informers also claimed that the gang was planning to strike again in the area.

Acting on the tip-off, police rounded up three persons near BalajI Dhaba and found gas cutters carried by them in bags with clothes.
During interrogation they confessed planning to target an ATM in Susner area.

The accused – Amir Sohail, 20, Akeel Khan, 22 and Imran, 26, all residents of Palvad (Haryana) – confessed having broken into the SBI ATM in Tanodia.

Police have recovered Rs 1.32 lakh from the possession of the accused. Further interrogation was on, police said.
