MSEDCL threatens to snap supply to sub-divisional, tehsil offices in Yeola

Nashik: After disconnecting power supply to BSNL towers and exchanges, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited ( MSEDCL ) has threatened to snap electricity at sub-divisional and tehsil offices of Yeola taluka owing to outstanding dues.

“The sub-divisional office owes Rs50,757 to the MSEDCL, while the tehsil office owes Rs12,559.

The dues are pending for the past three months,” a senior official from Malegaon rural division of MSEDCL’s Nashik zone said.

Number of meetings with officials from both the offices was carried out by the state power utility staff to remind them about payment of bills.

“Generally, the dues are cleared on time. But this time the dues are pending for a long period. Hence, we had to the meet the officials and request them to make the payment,” the MSEDCL official said.

As the dues are outstanding for the past three months, the MSEDCL also spoke with senior officials from the district administration. “The district administration assured us about clearing the payment, but things have not moved,” the official added.

Hence, on Thursday, MSEDCL officials went to Yeola tehsil office for snapping the connection. But as the offices sought time till Wednesday, the action was called off.

“We fully understand that these are government offices and work for the common man. Hence, we are being lenient with them. But at the same time we are constantly pushed from the headquarters to get the dues cleared on time. This is the reason we have been pressing them to make the payments,” the official said.

He further stated that the MSEDCL had undertaken a special recovery drive from various defaulters — residential, commercial and industrial — to minimize its losses.

On an average, the Malegone zone, including Malegaon town, collects Rs1,083 crore per month and there is outstanding of over Rs350 crore.

The major chunk of this comes from Malegaon town where the MSEDCL has not been able to cut down on the gap between power supply and revenue earned, resulting in huge losses for the company. The company has already decided to appoint a private distribution franchisee.
