Mumbai: Migrants flock to Suncity ground in Vasai as 7 trains expected to leave for UP today

MUMBAI: Over 8,000 people have gathered at the Suncity ground in Vasai as seven Shramik Special trains are expected to depart for Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday.

The seven trains likely to leave from Vasai railway station include four to Jaunpur , two to Bhadohi and one to Gorakhpur.

The migrants , from the Vasai-Virar region, Mira-Bhayander , Thane are being medically examined.

They will be boarded in buses and taken to the railway station depending on the train timing.

Migrants who had missed earlier trains had parked themselves on footpaths outside the railway station. They complained that despite having filled travel forms online weeks ago they had not received any communication about trains. They were taken to the ground and helped with the travel procedure.

While trains with migrants have earlier departed for Jaunpur and Gorakhpur, this is the first train leaving for Bhadohi from Vasai. Families with children and elders were seen waiting on the open ground with umbrellas and bedsheets to beat the heat.

Meanwhile, the Jesal Park Chowpatty in Bhayander (east) that is used to accommodate migrants from the Mira-Bhayander region heading for trains at Vasai has got a temporary cover to beat the heat.
