Mumbai: Police act against 127 offenders outside Kalyan station

KALYAN: In a surprise combing operation by city police outside Kalyan railway station, Thane police took action against 127 people involved in an illegal act. Most of them were errant auto rickshaw drivers who parked their autos inappropriately blocking roads outside station area.

The police team of around 100 policemen led by ACP Anil Powar made a surprised raid on Wednesday at 10 pm night and within four hours till Thursday at 2am took action against 127 people including 95 autos violating traffic norms, 14 illegal hawkers, 10 prostitutes and 8 involved in gambling act.



Kalyan residents for a long time have been complaining about the menace and inconvenience to commuters as they blocked maximum portion of roads and also entrance to the station by parking autos in improper way.

A senior police official said that after hearing commuters complain, the newly appointed Deputy Commissioner of Police Vivek Pansare has decided to control the errant auto rickshaw drivers and last month he started an operation giving it name of operation ‘All Out’. This is said to be third such major combing operation carried out by police outside Kalyan railway station area where drivers park their autos inappropriately blocking roads making it inconvenient for the commuters.

Last month on April 18, cops took action against 75 autos and seized 17 auto rickshaws. Vasanti Kulkarni a resident from Kalyan said, "The entrance to the station was congestion- free on Wednesday night but we want to appeal to the authorities that they should continue with such a drives regularly".

Talking to TOI, Powar said, “We after collecting fine from them, released the drievrs but have warned them to follow rules or else in future more stringent action will be taken against them".
