Munger varsity to hold sports events at colleges

PATNA: Munger University has decided to organize sports events in all its constituent and affiliated colleges as per the UGC guidelines. The university has decided to hold inter-college tournaments in 20 different disciplines in September and October.

The university would hold inter-college tournaments at 24 venues.

While athletics event would be held at the university headquarters in Munger, other events would be held at different places in Munger and at other colleges in Sheikhpura, Jamui, Jamalpur, Barahiya, Barbigha and Tarapur. The university would appoint observers to keep a close watch on the activities of these events, vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Ranjit Kumar Verma told this newspaper on Sunday.

According to the VC, a large number of students, including girls, are likely to participate in games and sports being organized for the first time after the creation of the university following the bifurcation of Bhagalpur University in March 2018. The university has also announced different dates for submitting entries in September only, he said, adding the university would select teams for various events on the basis of the performance for participation of the university teams at interstate or national level competitions to be held next year.

The university has also decided to organize inter-college cricket, football and boxing tournaments this time while yoga competition is slated to be held in January next year. Music will be another event for the students to showcase their talent, he said, adding the university will hold a selection trial for music soon after the inter-college tournaments for state level ‘Eklavya’ competition to be held in January next year.

Meanwhile, Munger University VC visited several colleges in Khagaria district and inspected their functioning on Saturday. He also interacted with teachers and students to know about their problems, sources said, adding the VC, however, directed the college principals to ensure maximum attendance in the classrooms and practical labs failing which the university would be forced to take stern action against students playing truant.
