Mushtaq Ali Trophy: Pondicherry score 31-run win over Mizoram

CHENNAI: Pondicherry registered a 31-run win over Mizoram in their Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 clash in Mumbai on Monday. This was Pondicherry's second win in three outings in the competition. Batting first, Pondicherry finished on 155 for 7 thanks to contributions from S Anand (42, 4x4, 2x6), skipper D Rohit (39) and Paras Dogra (31, 1x4, 3x6).




After losing Arun Karthick (1) early, the Rohit-Anand pair added 73 for the second wicket to steady the ship. While Paras kept the runs coming in the middle-overs, allrounder R Vinay Kumar helped the team finish on a high with his 18-ball 27 that contained 1 four and 2 sixes.

For the Mizoram side, medium-pacer Sumit Lamba shone with the ball - taking 3 for 25 from his quota of 4 overs. He was well-supported by Lalhmangaiha who returned with 2 for 27.

In reply, Taruwar Kohli (76 n.o., 6x4, 2x6) kept Mizoram in the hunt with his 61-ball knock. Despite losing partners at the other end, Taruwar kept playing the big shots.

For Pondicherry, medium-pacer Ashith Rajiv led the bowling charts with figures of 2 for 25. Offie Fabid Ahmed was the only other successful bowler - taking 1 for 15 from three overs.

Pondicherry will next be playing Mumbai on Tuesday.
