Mysuru connects to Goa, Hyderabad and Kochi by air

Mysuru: A decade after the Mysuru airport is opened for commercial flights, direct flights have been launched between Mysuru and Panjim in Goa. Given that the Mysuru airport is facing competition from the newly opened international terminal at Kannur in Kerala, the direct flights are expected to help boost tourism at the southern Karnataka hub.

On Friday, direct flights were also started to two more destinations—Kochi and Hyderabad—apart from Goa.

The service is provided by Alliance Air under the UDAN scheme.

Already, the airport offers connectivity to places like Chennai, Bengaluru, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Bengaluru.

The news services were launched by MP Pratap Simha.

Manu Anand, head (marketing) Alliance Air, mayor Pushpalata Jagannath, airport director R Manjunath and others were present on the occasion.

In the first day, 51 passengers travelled between Mysuru and Goa. “It was a 70-seat aircraft and the response was good,” said officials of Alliance Air.

According to the authorities, all the flights are operated with over 80% occupancy rate which is ‘very good’.

MP Pratap Simha stated that need of the hour is tourism promotion. “We have everything from palace to national parks, dams, gardens etc. We need to promote it. We failed to promote all these till now due to the poor connectivity. Now, under the UDAN scheme, Tier 2 and tier 3 cities are connected. We need to use them for city’s development,” he said.

“In the past 35 days, we have introduced four flights. Alliance Air is quickly implementing the connectivity schemes. I congratulate them,” he said.

Pratap Simha said that starting from October 27, morning flights will be launched from Mysuru to Belagavi and Mysuru to Chennai (second flight). True Jet will operate both these flights. IndiGo is expected to start a Mysuru-Hyderabad second flight in the next two months.
