Nagaland: 2 Assam Rifles personnel killed, 4 injured in encounter with terrorists in Mon district

Mon: Two Assam Rifles personnel were martyred while four others were injured after an encounter broke out between security forces and a group of militants, believed to belong to NSCN, on Saturday afternoon in Mon district in Nagaland. Mon is located along the Indo-Myanmar border. The encounter took place two days after the results of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections were declared.

As per reports, terrorists belonging to the Naga insurgent group ambushed the convoy of two vehicles of the Assam Rifles which encountered an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) blast in the area at around 1:30 pm on Saturday afternoon. Following the blast, a gunfight broke out between the security personnel and the terrorists in which the two soldiers were killed. 

The four wounded Assam Rifles personnel were provided with immediate medical treatment, news agency PTI quoted sources as saying. The injured personnel were said to be stable. 

One junior commissioned officer (JCO) was among the Assam Rifles personnel killed in the encounter, which took place near border pillars 147 and 148 along the Indo-Myanmar border, sources told the news agency.
