Nagpur: British transport body to help NMC improve Aapli Bus service

Under Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid & Electric Vehicles (Fame), the NMC is also expecting electric buses for city bus transportation. NAGPUR: The Transport for London (TFL), a British organization that manages transport services across London, is all set to help the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to revamp city’s public transport infrastructure.


As a part of an agreement with the Central government under a pilot project, the TFL will help improve public transports in five cities across the country. Of the five cities, four are from Maharashtra and one from Andhra Pradesh.

The TLF will assist the NMC’s transport department to improve Aapli Bus service, especially in plugging pilferage and converting diesel run buses into conventional energy like electricity.

Apart from Nagpur, the TFL will also provide assistance to Pune, Mumbai and Nashik in the state. In Andhra Pradesh, it will the help the government improve public transport system in Vijayawada.

The NMC’s transport department on Monday held a videoconferencing with the representatives of TFL and World Bank.

“TFL team, which will be visiting the city by May end or June first week, will study comprehensive agreement and intelligence transport system of Aapli Bus,” said a senior official from transport department.

Under Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid & Electric Vehicles (Fame), the NMC is also expecting electric buses for city bus transportation. TFL will help the NMC to establish solar charging stations at its three depots.
