Nagpur District athletes bag five medals in Maharashtra Mini Athletics Meet

NAGPUR: Nagpur district athletes started their campaign on a bright note in the Maharashtra Mini State Athletics Meet which got underway at Dervan, Chiplun in Ratnagiri district on Saturday.


District athletes won one gold, two silver and two bronze medals on Day 1 to stamp their authority.

In the 60m sprint, Ananya Mangar of Kalpavriksha Krida Mandal, Kamptee grabbed gold in the U-8 category.

She has been training under the guidance of Amit Thakur.

In the U-10 boys category, Sushant Singh won silver medal in the shot put. Sushant, a student of Sangrila Hills High School, Sangam Road, Hingna, trains under Prince Singh.

In the U-12 girls section, Trupti Manwatkar claimed bronze medal in the shot put with a throw of 6.66 metres. Trupti, a member of Golden Star Academy, Parshivani, is a trainee of Chandrabhan Kolte.

In the same age group, Kashish Bhagat finished seventh in the long jump with a leap of 3.99 metres. Another city athlete Chetan Patil had to be satisfied with the seventh spot in the high jump. Both Kashish and Chetan are members of Shakuntala Sports Foundation.

Krida Prabodhini students Vikas Valvi and Mukesh Wasave bagged silver and bronze medal, respectively in the 300m run. Both train under Aruna Gandhe.

In all, 60 members of the district team are participating in the state meet. Aruna Gandhe is the coach of the side, while Rahul Kalbandhe is accompanying as the manager, informed Nagpur District Athletics Association secretary Sharad Suryawanshi.

Lifetime president of NDAA Baban Taiwade, LR Malviya, Sharad Suryavanshi, Sanjay Choudhari, Nagesh Sahare and Pramod Tabhane have congratulated the successful athletes.
