Nagpur: Woman catches neighbour raping 8-year-old daughter

NAGPUR: A woman allegedly caught her neighbour allegedly raping her eight-year-old daughter on Wednesday at Dhantoli. Dhantoli police have arrested the accused, identified as Kamlesh Tumdam (30), following a complaint from the survivor’s mother.

Tumdam has been booked for rape under sections of Indian Penal Code ( IPC ) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Police said the survivor, a student of Std II, was playing at her home when Tumdam arrived. The survivor’s mother was preparing food when Tumdam asked the minor to help him find his seven-year-old son. The accused then took the survivor to his home.

Cops said Tumdam’s wife had gone to work while his son was out playing when the incident took place.

The minor’s mother got worried as she had not returned even after 10 to 15 minutes. The survivor’s mother started looking for her and remembered that the minor had gone with Tumdam. Soon, her mother reached Tumdam’s house and caught him red-handed exploiting the minor. She soon raised an alarm and the neighbours gathered at the spot. Fearing the wrath of angry mob, Tumdam fled.

Her mother soon rushed to Dhantoli police station. Accordingly, the cops filed a complaint and launched a search operation to find the accused.

Tumdam was later rounded-up in the evening and was arrested for rape.

Senior PI of Dhantoli police station VP Akot said, “As it is a sensitive case, we filed a case and arrested the accused soon. He was produced before the court on Thursday and was remanded in police custody till November 9.”

It is also learnt that police have conducted medical check-up of the survivor.
