Narmada water level above danger mark in Bharuch

Bharuch/ Surat: Around 2 ,500 people and cattle belonging to some of them were shifted to relief camps and shelters, respectively after water from Narmada River entered low-lying areas of old Bharuch town and seven villages of Ankleshwar in Bharuch district on Saturday.

The water level of Narmada at Golden Bridge in Bharuch had reached 29 feet, seven feet above the danger mark, on Friday night after 26 gates of Sardar Sarovar Dam at Kevadia Colony in Narmada district were opened.



The water level at Golden Bridge dropped to 25 feet after the dam gates were closed for some time on Saturday evening, but is still above the danger mark. People of Bharuch district were witnessing Narmada flowing bank to bank for the first time after six years.

Meanwhile,five houses collapsed at various places in the district, but there were no casualties. Ankleshwar-Hansot Road was flooded with water and express highway construction site has got submerged in water. Traffic movement was disrupted at various places because of waterlogging on the roads.

The water level at Sardar Sarovar Dam in Kevadia Colony was around 131.18 meters.

In the meantime, water of Kim river entered Birla Cellulose township in Kharach village.
