Narrow escape for family as Karol Bagh building collapses

NEW DELHI: Four members of a family had a narrow escape when a part of their house collapsed onto the street below. The rest of the building was also hanging onto some rods and bricks when the fire rescue teams reached the scene and managed to pull them to safety. Fire officials said that there were no mishaps.

The incident was reported from Dev Nagar in central Delhi's Prasad Nagar around 8pm on Saturday.

The family of four were in their living room when a portion of their house, which had a bed room suddenly crashed down. Fire officials say that the building was more than 80 years old and had developed cracks. The family had even been warned about it earlier.

Though the street on which the building is located remains busy, there was no one present when it crashed. Four fire tenders were used to scan through the debris. "External support was provided to ensure that the rest of the building does not collapse," said a fire official.

The civic bodies would conduct an inspection of the nearby buildings as well to find out if the crash had damaged their structures as well.
