Nashik: Standing committee gives green signal to projects worth Rs 52 crore

NASHIK: The two standing committee meetings held on Thursday afternoon and evening have approved projects worth Rs 52.23 crore. The projects included developmental works in different wards of the city.

This was the last meeting in the tenure of present chairperson Himgauri Aher-Adke.

Approval was also given for installing and maintaining LED lights on public-private partnership basis.

Initially, the corporators were sceptic about the project as Tata Projects was not doing it but had outsourced it. They also asked about the benefit NMC would get.

Executive engineer (mechanical department) SM Chavanke said, "We had asked for minimum 55% energy saving and 5% power sharing. They quoted 60%. We have installed 15,000 LED lights which we will get back. We have mentioned the buy back price in the tender. These lights can be used in our gardensand grounds. The Tatas does not produce the lights but they have an agreement with Bajaj."

Chavanke said that before handing over the street lights to the agency, the NMC will have to repair, replace or erect additional poles if necessary. After that the agency will maintain them for seven years.

"There will be smart components in the lights. They will be connected to a command and control centre. The lights can be switched on and off from the centre. We will know on which streets the lights are not working. If the agency does not repair them in 74 hours, it will be fined Rs 100/per day/per fitting. Similarly, if a phase goes off, the fine would be Rs 500. We have 90 staff for maintenance at present. With this project 60 will become free and we can use their service elsewhere," Chavanke explained.

The corporators also demanded that the gardens department should use tree guards to conserve the trees planted.

A proposal of appointing 446 security guards for NMC hospitals, water storage tanks, river banks and schools were also approved.

Corporator Bhagwat Aarote asked about the status of the scrap market on Satpur-Ambad Link Road that was demolished by the NMC two years ago but was gradually coming up. The administration said they will be conducting a fresh survey in this regard from next week.
