Kochi: The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) is conducting its circuit bench in Ernakulam, the first such sitting in the state in 10 years. The four-day circuit bench, which began on Tuesday, will hear 150 petitions from Kerala.
NCDRC president R K Agrawal and member M Sreesha reached Kochi on Tuesday and the sitting is being held at the court hall at the district forum office at Pullepady. The national commission president and member were received by State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission president K Surendramohan and district forum president Cherian K Kuriakose.
“The bench is hearing pending cases from Kerala. The petitioners and respondents were intimated about the sitting. People can also file appeals before the commission during these days. We expect the circuit bench will have another sitting in Kerala in the next six months,” said a source. On Tuesday, the bench heard 35 petitions.
The district forum could not hold sittings for months due to the delay in appointing members. “Around 1,700 petitions are pending with the forum now. The forum began to hold sittings after a new member was appointed in August after a gap of nine months. There is no lady member with the forum for the past one year,” said a source.
