NCC organises anti-drug seminar, activities to commemorate upcoming NCC day

CHANDIGARH: The Jalandhar based National Cadet Corps (NCC) Group organized an anti-drugs seminar at the campus of DAV University Jalandhar in which nine drug victims who have recently fought their way back into the mainstream, also gave a talk. All these victims of drug abuse narrated as to how they had got hooked to drugs and how they were brought out of this vicious circle.

It came out loud and clear from the experiences of all drug victims that they had indeed struggled hard to come out of this loop which at one stage seemed to be unending. Brig Advitya Madan, NCC Commander Jalandhar gave an outstanding motivational talk to the audience and appealed to the youth to wean themselves away from the drugs. Earlier, Col Karan Singh , Commanding Officer Jalandhar had opened the proceedings of the day.


The victims explained as to how consumption of drugs leads to a number of physiological and psychological changes in themselves. They went onto narrate, how they became so dependent on their immediate relatives. Dr Rishi, psychologist cum counsellor bought out as to how one boy had frittered away two crores of his family due to his drug addiction. Low performance at work due to excessive substance abuse had led to lowering of their earnings. Some of victims also mentioned as to how they had lost their jobs. On this occasion, Jalandhar NCC Group donated several recreational items viz Table tennis sets and badminton sets for benefit of drug rehabilitation centres where the drug victims can keep themselves fruitfully engaged in some recreational activities.

The event was organized in view of the on-going celebrations by NCC authorities to commemorate NCC day scheduled on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Gurgaon based 5-Haryana battalion of NCC organized blood donation camp in its premises in the city. Col Ajay Kumar, commanding officer of the battalion informed that 95 cadets including boys and girls cadets from colleges under the unit, donated blood.
