NDMC chairman moved to Arunachal Pradesh

NEW DELHI: New Delhi Municipal Council ( NDMC ) chairman Naresh Kumar was transferred on Tuesday. He has been appointed as the chief secretary of Arunachal Pradesh .


The home ministry issued an official notification in this regard. Kumar, a 1987-batch IAS officer, will succeed Satya Gopal as Arunachal Pradesh chief secretary, mentioned in the office order.



Kumar was instrumental in implementing the Centre's smart city projects in NDMC areas during his four-year tenure. These included smart poles with Wi-Fi, smart bikes, smart classes, smart metres, fibre to the home and cable facility, command and control centre, warm LEDs, GPS-based garbage collection trucks and e-vehicle charging stations.

Besides this, water ATMs, decentralised sewage treatment plants, underground bins, solar rooftop panels on 92 buildings, along with 95 solar poles at several roundabouts as part of renewable energy were other initiatives taken by the civic body.

"Of the 111 projects identified under the smart city initiative, 72 were completed and the rest are in the pipeline. To improve aesthetic initiative, solar bus queue shelters have also been installed and a solar tree has been put up at Connaught Place where leaves are working as solar panels and lighting the tree at night and also providing mobile charging facility," he said.

The centrally administered municipal body with a population of 2.5 lakh residents was adjudged India's cleanest small city in Centre's Swachh Survekshan, under the 1-3 lakh population category in 2018 and 2019.
