Need to promote more regional content: Smriti Irani at Mussoorie film conclave

MUSSOORIE: As part of the week-long celebrations to mark State Foundation Day on November 9, a day-long film conclave was organised in Mussoorie on Friday, which was attended by chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and Union minister Smriti Zubin Irani.

Speaking on the occasion, Irani, who is also a former TV actress, highlighted the need to develop multi-lingual content and urged filmmakers to focus on regional languages.

She insisted that apart from providing facilities for film shooting, the state also needed to focus on putting together a “working group for content creation”.

“Uttarakhand has a rich history and culture and there is a need to present it to the world through the digital media,” Irani said.

CM Rawat on the other hand pointed out that the state’s pristine beauty was perfect to shoot films in. “Uttarakhand’s picturesque landscape is well-suited for shooting of films and serials. The government has also put in place a single-window system to give speedy clearances to production houses.”

Rawat said that the government would duly consider the suggestions received from experts at the conclave, adding that the state would make shooting conditions more favourable.

Four panel discussions were held on Friday, where experts deliberated on the film policy of Uttarakhand and promotion of film shooting in the state. Noted directors Vishal Bhardwaj , Muzaffar Ali and Tigmanshu Dhulia were present at the event.
