Neral-Matheran toy train to trundle again before April

MUMBAI: You can expect the Neral-Matheran toy train to be up and working before the summer vacation. Work on restoring the rain-ravaged route has begun and is slated for completion in four months - before April.

The work, cost of which is pegged around Rs 6 crore, is "challenging" as there is no road access to the damaged railway line, said Central Railway's chief public relations officer Shivaji Sutar.

Torrential rain in July damaged caused damage at 21 spots to the toy train route. While the toy train is usually shut in the monsoon, this year it has not functioned since July. The railways said they will try to restart services from Matheran to Aman lodge before Christmas.
