New dialysis machines unveiled at Chandigarh PGI

CHANDIGARH: PGI director Prof Jagat Ram inaugurated an ultrafiltration and hemodialysis machine donated by S P Singh Oberoi, chairperson of NGO Sarbat Da Bhala to the department of cardiology, Advanced Cardiac Centre on Friday.

Another machine was donated to the paediatrics department at the medical institute.

This dialysis machines has the capability of performing continuous renal replacement therapy dialysis in adult and paediatric patients. Moreover, it can perform membrane plasma separation, membrane perfusion and slow continuous ultrafiltration. This machine will be very useful in doing dialysis of sick patients with low blood pressure and decreased urine output.

These machines will go a long way in decreasing mortality and morbidity of patients with renal failure. It will further help in reducing the mortality in acute coronary syndrome and heart failure patients. “The cardiology department has already achieved the least mortality in acute coronary syndrome with mechanical complication and heart failure and our management protocol is being followed by centres from all over the globe,” said Prof Yashpaul Sharma, head of the department.
