New voters, business class to play key role in Ajmer

AJMER: Business class and youths are going to be a deciding factor in Ajmer in the Lok Sabha elections, where the polling will be held on Monday. Voters have increased by two lakh in Ajmer, as compared to the 2014 elections and about 20 voters have increased in comparison of by-polls conducted in 2018.

At present, the BJP has four seats including Ajmer south, Ajmer north, Pushkar and Nasirabad.

This time, about 18,62,158 voters are going to use their right to vote in Ajmer, as compared to 16,43,021 voters in 2014 Lok Sabha elections. The business class of Ajmer, which plays a vital role in the elections, is usually associated with BJP since a long time and in the last 20 odd years, the BJP is winning Ajmer north seat because of their support. But in 2018 by-polls, the business class including upper castes went away from the BJP and therefore BJP lost the by-polls.

In Ajmer constituency, Jats play an important role with about 3.5 lakh including the Dudu state assembly constituency of Jaipur, and this community is densely populated in Kishangarh, Nasirabad, Roopangarh, Silora, Sarwar and Bhinai and therefore BJP fielded a Jat candidate, Bhagirath Choudhary from Kishangarh. But in the last by-polls of 2018, the elections were turned into a Jat versus non-Jat affair and therefore the Congress got an edge and Raghu Sharma won the elections by 80 thousand odd votes.

The second major section is the Rawats, who are taken to be BJP supporters traditionally. Rawats are spread in Masuda, Pisanghan, Kekri and Pushkar region. History of voting in Ajmer shows that these belts voted for a single party in last 20 years.

The third important section in Ajmer is Muslims and most of them are Cheta-Maharat, who are taken as half Hindu and half Muslim, and play an important role in the elections.
