Newly-built Barkatullah University road 'melts' to the misery of commuters

BHOPAL: T hink twice before visiting the Barkatullah University (BU) as a new road in front of the vice-chancellor's office has started melting with tar losing the surface. A complaint has been filed to higher authorities.

Vineet Rai, a student from Hoshangabad said, "I have never seen such an incident in my life.

How come tar is losing the surface?"

He had to visit the garage for getting the layer of asphalt removed from the wheels of his car.

The situation is such that some employees park their vehicles away from the spot and walk to the office instead of getting stuck in the asphalt. "I think it was better for me to use public transport in place of private vehicle in such situation," said Prakash Sharma, an employee.

For past couple of months asphaliting of varsity road is underway. Sources said around Rs 3 cr is being spent on for asphalting of around 260-acre campus. "I have written to the authorities for a probe. I am afraid as how this road will sustain during monsoon ," said RTI activist Dharmendra Singh Gour.

Sources said the company which was given the responsibility of asphalting has been asked as why such poor tarring was done. "This is embarrassing for the university as several outsiders visits the campus daily. Such agency should be banned," said a senior faculty without quoting his name.

When contacted, registrar (incharge), Yashwant Patel said he will look into the matter.

"I have no idea about the issue. As you have told me I will ask the university engineer to probe and file a report about it. I can comment in a better only after going through the details," said Patel.
