Actress Tamannaah Bhatia Called In For Questioning Regarding Alleged Illegal IPL Streaming

Tamannaah Bhatia has been summoned as a witness by the Maharashtra Cyber Cell for questioning in the illegal IPL matches streaming case. She is required to appear for questioning on April 29. Additionally, it has been reported that Sanjay Dutt 's name has surfaced in connection with the case. He was asked to appear for questioning earlier this week but requested a new date due to scheduling conflicts.

ANI shared on X “Maharashtra Cyber summons actor Tamannaah Bhatia for questioning in connection with the illegal streaming of IPL 2023 on Fairplay App that caused loss of Crores of Rupees to Viacom. She has been asked to appear before Maharashtra Cyber on 29th April.”

“Actor Sanjay Dutt was also summoned in this connection on 23rd April but he had not appeared before them. He had, instead, sought a date and time for recording his statement and said that he was not in India on the date,” they added.

Tamannaah and Sanjay are purportedly involved in promoting and endorsing a subsidiary app of the Mahadev betting app called FairPlay. Additionally, over 20 influencers who have endorsed the FairPlay app across various platforms may soon be summoned to provide their statements.

In 2023, Viacom18 Group lodged an FIR alleging that several IPL 2023 matches were unlawfully streamed on Fairplay, with numerous actors endorsing and promoting the betting application.

Viacom18, the owner of various television channels and the OTT platform VOOT, discovered in October 2021 that seven apps—Pikashow, Foxi, Vedu, Smart Player Lite, Film Plus, Tea TV, and Wow TV—were illegally broadcasting serials, reality shows, and other content from Viacom18 platforms.

The case filed against these apps asserts that they were profiting monetarily by airing Viacom18 content without obtaining legal rights, resulting in a loss exceeding ₹100 crore for the company.
