Former Prime Minister's Grandson, Prajwal Revanna, Embroiled In Alleged Sex Scandal After Woman's Disclosure

A significant controversy has arisen in Karnataka following reports of an alleged sex scandal involving Prajwal Revanna , the grandson of former Prime Minister H. D. Deve Gowda, and the Member of Parliament from Hassan. On Sunday, the Karnataka government formed a special investigation team (SIT) to investigate the alleged scandal after receiving a letter from Dr.
Nagalakshmi, the Chairperson of the Women’s Commission.

An FIR accusing Prajwal Revanna and his father, H D Revanna, who represents Holenarasipur as an MLA, of sexual harassment , was filed based on a complaint from a woman who worked at Revanna's residence.

The woman who filed the complaint informed the police that she chose to step forward and identify the father-son pair after viewing videos where other victims shared their experiences. The woman mentioned that Prajwal Revanna started calling her to his quarters during the fourth month of her employment.

She said, “In a household with six female staff members, apprehension gripped us whenever Prajwal Revanna returned home. Even male colleagues cautioned us to exercise caution.”

The woman accused HD Revanna and Prajwal Revanna of sexually assaulting female workers in their residences.

“Whenever (HD) Revanna’s wife wasn’t there, he used to call the women to the storeroom and touch them while giving them fruits. He used to remove saree pins and sexually assault women,” she added.

The complainant also alleged that Prajwal Revanna behaved inappropriately towards her daughter during a video call.

"My daughter blocked his number after repeated calls," the complainant said.

The case has been filed under the appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), encompassing 354A (sexual harassment), 354D (stalking), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 509 (outraging modesty of a woman).

Prajwal Revanna is reported to have departed the country for Germany.

“In case he (Prajwal) has gone to a foreign country, SIT will be responsible for bringing him back and continuing the investigation. We will not tell the SIT to do the investigation this or that way,” Home Minister G Parameshwara told reporters.

Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said, “....we are hanging our heads in shame." “I saw in the media that he has ‘escaped’. This is an unpardonable crime. It is a matter of shame. He is an MP and the grandson of a former Prime Minister. He represented the same constituency which the former Prime Minister had represented.”

The JD(S), which is part of the BJP-led NDA, once more nominated Prajwal for the constituency of Hassan, where elections were held on April 26.
